In Full Bloom
When I hear "Spring", I immediately think of light pastel colours and florals. Whether it's flowers blooming in the season or floral printed pieces. Spring after spring, the uplifting print has never failed us. On the SS'15 runways, I remember seeing a lot of 3D floral prints on crop tops or muted floral prints on midi skirts. For Valentino, it was vibrant-coloured florals on cross body bags and dresses; Chloe it was white floral crochet, and Alice + Olivia – flirty and fun crop tops and flouncy dresses. Sometimes floral prints can come off rather old and dated, but I believe that if you find the right cut and shape for your figure, it will look modern and feminine. These three favourite designers did a fabulous job keeping the youth in these pieces while pulling in ‘60s and ‘70s influences.
This season, I’ve partnered with Winners to discover floral #WINNERSFabFinds at their locations. While mining through their racks and racks of clothing, I found these perfect trendy pieces for the spring:
Clover Canyon 'magic underworld' neoprene crop top | A mix of fantasy and fairytale in one neoprene crop top. I love the magical blend of florals and mythical creature in this top - it brings a type of uniqueness that you wouldn't otherwise find in other pieces. I decided to style it more elegantly with a floral-embroidered midi skirt and Kate Spade clutch.
Mario Serrani midi skirt | Spotted this charming full midi skirt with a textured floral finish. It is pleated in all of the right places and ideal for those garden parties in the spring and summer!
Clover Canyon 'lady wilde' neoprene top | It's a contemporary top with vivid floral prints along the left sleeve and down the entire back. My eyes caught onto this one because of the unique silhouette, photoreal graphics and soft neoprene fabric. It can be worn very casually with a pair of jeans or styled elegantly with a midi skirt. Since it’s Spring, I went with a playful, flirty look and wore it with a short H&M flounced skirt, Rebecca Minkoff crossbody bag and a pair of Zara vamped flats.
Jules & Leopold floral pants | A great piece to transition yourself into the spring season and is also office appropriate is a pair of fun, floral printed trousers. I picked mine up the other day and paired it with a simple silk camisole, boyfriend blazer and a pair of understated lace sling backs. Alternatively, you can wear these with a loose pocket tee and a pair of black ballet flats for a more casual look.
You would be amazed by what you can score at Winners when you spend a little more time going through each rack. I recommend always going alone because then you can focus your efforts on finding what you are looking for and taking all the time you need to try on the items (even if its for a second time). Sometimes, you might even stumble upon something fabulous and cheap! I love the Winners in Yorkville because they have designer and runway pieces from Pink Tartan, DVF, See by Chloe, Derek Lam and many others. They’re usually hidden so be sure to go through everything! I’m an avid online shopper, but I have to admit that the one thing I miss most about shopping in-store is being able to feel each and every single item. My latest trips to Winners has definitely rekindled my love for shopping at a brick and mortar.
