I don’t typically wear much colour but since we just entered this beautiful season, I threw on some denim because denim counts as colour, right? I love a relaxed chambray button down and couldn’t resist the opportunity to wear it in this classic Canadian tuxedo way. I’ve had the urge to branch out a few times to try out new denim trends that are far from traditional silhouettes that I’m accustomed to — such as '70s flares, mom jeans, and embroidered — but I always worry that they’ll be one of those pieces that will end up in the donation bag the next season. When I do purchase denim, I try to pick up something that is a classic and can be worn season after season. One denim style that I love at the moment is the French Boyfriend, a slightly fitted but ankle-pegged. And we all know that anything French is chic and classic.

I’ve worn this denim on denim combination a few different times, but this time I styled it with a pair of ripped jeans with frayed hems, a trench coat and a pair of lace-up flats. It wasn’t even intentional, but somehow the layering and accessorizing pieces ended up matching in colour. These will be my core wardrobe staples this spring until it’s warm enough to lose the jacket and to slip into sandals.
