To me, the modern woman is someone who is independent. She is someone who is strong and capable of achieving all of her successes on her own two feet. She is someone who can ascertain her goals and achieve them. I am very fortunate to have been able to grow up in this modern era where this is widely supported and encouraged.

Growing up, it was difficult to see the sacrifices that my mom had to make. She couldn't even dare to dream about advancing in her career or excelling in something she really loved because my brother and I always came first. When I was younger, I would hear my mom wake up at 5:30AM, get ready, prepare our lunches and head out to work. She was the main breadwinner, but also made an effort to volunteer at my elementary school and also attend my school plays and performances. When she arrives home, she would start cooking for us before anything else. After dinner, she would clean up and wash all of the dishes. On weekends, she would do the laundry and clean up around the house. To this day, she still does this without complaining one bit. If I can become half of the woman she is, I would be very proud. I feel very lucky to have been raised by her and given the opportunities that I have in front of me today. A lot of us women have been blessed with a professional career of their dreams, but also have the balance of their personal lives.

What does being a modern woman mean to you?
