My only birthday wish this year is to be able to celebrate with my loved ones and be perfectly content doing something very simple and low-key. Once upon a time, I believed that 21 was the ideal age and after that year... well, it would all go downhill. Now finally at 24, I learned that age is merely a number, as long as you are constantly growing with the people you love. I'm lucky enough to have been able to surround myself with positive people who have always been there to support me. I don't say this enough, but I'm truly grateful for all of the wonderful people I have in my life - that includes Terrance, my family, close friends, mentors and colleagues. Thank you!

In our fitted black tops and sheer midis, Wendy and I made our way to BMO's Fashion Saturday to preview the Spring 2015 runway trends from Toronto Fashion Week. We saw a lot of feminine silhouettes, pastel hues and floral accents - all which were very dreamy and spring-appropriate!

Here's my modern take on a 1950s classic: the midi skirt. I love the demure silhouette and beautiful shape, but what I noticed is that fuller midis can be tricky to pull off. I kept it as simple as possible by pairing this rose jacquard midi with a form-fitting cropped sweater and a pair of heeled sandals for a ladylike and sophisticated appearance.

For my early birthday celebration, Terrance treated me to my favourite brunch spot - Mildred's Temple Kitchen, which is housed in an industrial-esque building inside the quaint Liberty Village. The Mrs. Biederhof's Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes are legendary for its light & fluffiness and always made to perfection! Terrance will be off to Mexico for a work trip this weekend so it was very sweet of him to spend time with me before his departure.

As far as the outfit goes, I wore a simple racerback crop top and skirt. There's a modern element to the skirt with the curved hem so I wanted to take the modernism further by pairing it with a leather jacket and a pair of stiletto booties. Black and grey has always been one of those shades that I'm most drawn to in the colder months and lucky for me, it's one of the latest fall trends. The muted tone exudes a very warm and cozy look so I'll be sporting this all season long!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope your bellies are full from all of the Thanksgiving meals. I am thankful for a lot this year - my family, my friends, good health and you, my readers. I haven't been the best blogger these last two years since starting my full-time job, but I realized that this is what I am truly passionate about and would like to take it even further. I've made subtle updates to my blog to improve your experience (search, categories and etc.) and have started partnering with some amazing photographers to shoot my photos so I hope you'll continue to follow my journey!

My Skincare Routine

October 4, 2014

Skincare Routine (1)

I don't have perfect skin. Ever since I was a teen, I've struggled with acne. Not to the extent where I would require any form prescribed medication, but consistent enough that it would affect my self-esteem. After starting my Proactiv treatment about 8 years ago, it's been rather challenging to move onto anything else. Of course, this was after learning it the hard way while trying to prove to myself that my skin wasn't dependent on a certain type of product. I regretted this decision immediately after experimenting with other products, hoping that it would give my skin the same results as Proactiv does or better. I tried Shiseido "The Skincare" line, St. Ives green tea cleanser & scrub, and finally the Clarisonic Mia with Philosophy Purity Made Simple cleanser. There were amazing reviews on the Clarisonic Mia, even from those who suffered from severe acne so I thought that this would be it for me. After using it for two months or so, I was still undergoing the daunting "purging" phase. I think this was the point when I came to accept that my skin was different from everyone else's and that what works for others may not ever work for me. Proactiv is the one product I can rely on and so now I use it religiously every single morning and night. I am still hoping for that miracle product to coming along to save me from spending $70+ every few months, but for now, this will have to do.

Hello Fall! Even though we're about one week into the new season, it still feels like summer. This will likely be the last weekend of short skirts, sleeveless shirts and warm weather, but I thoroughly enjoyed the extended summer. I love recycling outfits so here is another take on my outfit from two weeks ago - I swapped the leggings for this flouncy skirt just to create a more polished, night-out appropriate look. Terrance and I wanted to take advantage of the warm weather so we settled for drinks on a patio with a few friends, then spontaneously ended up having dinner at Santouka (amazing miso ramen!) and spent the rest of our night at WAbar.
