While it's drizzling outside, I'm sitting here wrapped in my throw scrolling through these cloudless photos from yesterday's ferry ride over to Centre Island. My talented vlogger friend/co-worker With Wendy and I decided to take advantage of our summer hours and took the $7 ferry over to Centre Island for an afternoon of photo and video shooting. Although we were only on the Island for a few short hours, it seemed as if we escaped the city and landed on a tropical resort sans palm trees. It was definitely a treat to be in a more peaceful place away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

If you've previously seen Wendy's videos, you would already know that she sews and shares her quick and simple DIYs on her channel. She designed and made this beautiful woven summer beach tote for our outing. The braided rope and chambray interior lining lends a hand in making this bag a stylish carryall for toting all your beach essentials. Don't forget to subscribe to her channel to watch her upcoming post on how to make this beach tote + she may even be adding this to her shop!

Thomas Sabo Autumn/Winter 2014

The team over at Faulhaber Communications kindly invited me to the launch of the Thomas Sabo Autumn/Winter 2014 Collection yesterday at the Four Seasons Hotel in Yorkville. To be honest, I have never attended these types of events so I had no idea what to expect, but was thankful I had my best friend with me. After stepping in, we were immediately dazzled by the glistening gems that were encapsulated, and of course by the overflowing dessert table.

Many may recognize Thomas Sabo as the brand behind their classic Charm Club collection and otherwise feminine jewellery. This particular collection, however, was inspired by a new kind of elegance - rock & roll. There were a diverse range of rings, all of which were intricately designed and well-crafted. The focal point was around the karma beads as well as the rich statement stones, but I naturally gravitated towards the delicate and simplistic rose gold pieces (surprise, surprise!). The evening ended on an excellent note with a toast to new friendships and a belly filled with carbs and sugar!

Into the blue

Can you believe that we're already halfway through the summer? I'm making more of an effort to inject pops of colour whenever I can before I retreat back to my blacks in the fall. This year, I'm especially loving vibrant blues and reds because they stand out beautifully when worn against neutral black and whites. I've always stayed away from these two colours, but now I'm learning how well it goes with every skin tone and refreshing to have in my closet.

Bonjour! Wish I could be saying this from Paris, but for now I can only afford a light-knit sweater with a stitched on French greeting. On a more exciting note, Terrance and I will be travelling to L.A next month! We've been dreaming about visiting this sunny place for months and are thrilled about our arrival in the heart of West Hollywood. The weather will be truly incredible and I can't be more excited to be exploring the various neighbourhoods with my favourite person. I'll be sure to share photos when we're back, but if you have any recommendations, please leave me a comment below //

This is a story about my name. What sparked me to share the story behind my name was my iced chai tea latte order from earlier this afternoon at Dineen Coffee Co. Those of you who do not know me personally may not know that my name is actually pronounced Ann-ie. My mom barely spoke English when I was first born, but knew that she wanted to name me 'Annie'. The only problem was that she did not know how to spell it out correctly. The humour in this is that my brother is two years older than me, but somehow she was able to get 'Brian' right (turns out it was because my Uncle from Ottawa was there to help name my brother). When I was young, it never bothered me only because I was the only 'Annie' in my family and in my class. It never bothered me until I reached grade 3 and met another Annie in my class. I never quite understood why my name was spelt different or why people were pronouncing it incorrectly. All I knew was that "Aney" was nowhere to be found on mugs or souvenirs in any gift shops I visited. You can just imagine the disappointment in my eyes each time after surveying through the rows of names only to find nothing. From that moment onwards, I wanted to legally change the spelling of my name. However, the process is likely daunting and I knew that my parents would never allow it.

Within the last couple of years, I have learned to fully embrace my name and accept that it is what makes me unique. There isn't much that I can disclose about myself during an introduction, but the story behind the spelling of my name has been one of the very few interesting things I've been able to share with others. What is comforting is that I'm always pleasantly surprised by the positive comments. If you have a story similar to mine, just know that it's not wrong to be different and be thankful to have something all your own :)

Distressed

If you asked me a couple of years back or even just months, I would have never answered that a pair of leopard loafers would be the next pair of shoes to find a place on my shoe rack. Over the past few months, I have definitely introduced quite a few new and different pieces to my closet. Neutral and feminine pieces will always have a way to my heart, but I’m leaving my mind open for some cool and casual wear. Sometimes it’s nice to put on a laid back and effortless look.

White frills

There's nothing more refreshing than throwing on a loose-fitting white frock on a hot summer day. Paired this dress with two of my latest faves - my new Anya Hindmarch bag that I purchased a few weeks ago in New York and comfiest pair of sandals from Joe Fresh. I wore this to work on Friday, which was perfect since a few of us spent our lunch hour over at Harbourfront for a quick tour of a Pirate Ship. The entire Marketing department will be sailing on the Kajama this July for our summer offsite. Yarr!
